Principal: Ross Houston's Message
Dear Trojan Families,
It is with great excitement that I welcome you to the 2025–2026 school year at Greater
Johnstown Middle School. I am honored to be entering my second year as principal, and my
administrative team and I are grateful for the opportunity to continue leading a school
community that proudly reflects a rich tradition of Pride and Excellence.
Looking back on the 2024–2025 school year, I couldn’t be more proud of the progress we made
together. In just one year, our collective efforts led to meaningful strides in several key areas:
Academic growth across core subjects, driven by increased student engagement and
achievement.
A stronger school culture and climate, supported by intentional relationship-building
and positive behavior systems.
Expanded student supports, including enhanced mental health resources and academic
interventions.
Improved communication and family involvement, building deeper trust between
school and home.
These successes are a direct result of the dedication, hard work, and collaboration of our
students, staff, and families. As we begin this new school year, I’m excited to build on this
momentum. I truly believe that we’re just getting started on our journey together—and the best is
yet to come.
The 2025–2026 school year also marks my 18th year in education. Before becoming principal
at GJMS, I spent nearly 15 years at Somerset Area Junior High School and later served as an
Assistant Principal at Johnstown Elementary. My Master’s Degree in Inclusive Education
continues to guide my work, reinforcing the importance of equity, accessibility, and cultivating a
school culture where all students feel valued and supported.
When I’m not on the JMS campus, I’m usually on a ballfield coaching or with my wife,
cheering on our sons, Aiden and James. My family and I enjoy traveling, spending time
outdoors, and making the most of the time we share together.
I look forward to another year of growth, learning, and meaningful collaboration. Thank you
for your continued support and trust. Trojan Nation is strong(er) because of WE.
Warmest regards,
Ross Houston
